Vocal Africa, still in its nascent stage, is interested in African stories and experiences told from the African perspective. In such age as this we believe in the importance of reclaiming our history, in holding the power whip when narrating stories about the African continent. Vocal Africa was solely birthed for this purpose; to serve as home to the diverse stories from diverse purveyors.

We want to publish stunning, original stories from writers of African descent, home and abroad. From stories crafted on bus rides to work, school or home, to those written in obscurity, carefully tucked away in squalid alcoves (of insecurity), away from prying light, we publish almost everything. Fiction, nonfiction, essays, interviews, experiences, commentaries, random opinions on events or things, critical, witty book reviews, anything as long as it proves interesting, thoughtful, and well within our editorial guidelines. There is a vast reader base waiting to consume your works, discover your rare talent.

Our submission window is open year-round. We promise to read through all works submitted to us.

All submissions MUST be in English and previously unpublished. Works originally not in English should be submitted alongside its translation in the English language.

We accept simultaneous submissions also, but please do notify us immediately by mail should your work be accepted elsewhere for publication.
